Key Requirements for Decentralized CLOBs

In our last article, The CLOB is dead! Long live the CLOB!, we pulled back the curtain on what exactly a Central Limit Order Book is and how they function. We dug into a couple of CLOB implementations to identify their current limitations and creative ways in which builders are attempting to overcome them. Each of these solutions come with its own caveats and trade-offs, and they're are all treating symptoms of the problem but not the problem itself. “How does a CLOB exist on-chain without sacrificing speed, security or integrity, if a there are no data layer that allows for affordable long-term storage, low latency, high throughput and top-tier currently live?” Many ask themselves. However, what if there is? What if I told you that Hyve is what CLOBs have been waiting for, but nobody thought was possible.

CLOBs will thrive on Hyve

  • Security - Hyve is secured by Symbiotic's Universal Staking. This allows protocols/apps to leverage decentralized, robust and existing validator sets (renting economic security), while also allowing the protocol/app’s security to scale indefinitely thanks to its flexible collateral approach. Operators act in good faith through a system of slashing, which aligns incentives so that malicious actors never end up better off, or with more influence

  • Transient Data Storage - Think a decentralized Amazon S3. Hyve can store data for as little or as long as the platform requires. Costs are comparable to Amazon with the added benefits of composability and verifiability. This is the beginning of “Open Data”, and the end of “Decentralized protocols” relying on centralized infrastructure.

  • Throughput and Latency - Hyve boasts a 1gb/s throughput floor and near 0 latency. Hyve can support the traffic of even the busiest of CLOBs, ensuring that data is accessible and accurate, while also delivering a premium user experience.

How is this possible?

Hyve has been carefully engineered from the ground up to handle data in the most efficient manner. Through parallel processing, clever erasure encoding and a constant focus on the user experience, Hyve will enable CLOBs to run wild without needing any clever workarounds or ingenious stop-gaps. Hyve takes care ofthe order book; CLOB builders focus on matching, and the traders can focus on trading.

Voila. More on this soon.
